Rebuke Over Border Dispute Sent to Vietnam Embassy

Wednesday, 17 June 2015; News by Khmer Times / Nov Sivutha and Donald Lee

PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times)—The Foreign Affairs Ministry sent another diplomatic memo to the Embassy of Vietnam over another border demarcation dispute, this time in Kandal province.

The Ministry reiterated its demand for the Vietnamese government “to stop digging the land to lay the foundation for the construction of a military post...close to Preksbov village” in the Koh Thom district of Kandal province and to cease all activities until the area is properly demarcated.

Last week, after three more trenches in Ratanakkiri province were discovered, the Foreign Affairs Ministry demanded that the Vietnamese government comply with previous treaties signed between the two countries.

It sent a harsh rebuke to the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh. In two diplomatic memos, the ministry stressed that Prime Minister Hun Sen already had conversations with the Politburo in Vietnam about the issue.
