Natalie Claps was so moved by her visit to Cambodia two years ago that the Glenhaven resident is going back as a volunteer.
Her daughter Kiane was eight when she and her husband Pepe stayed in Siem Reap and met some children from an outlying village which they visited taking the community rice, stationary and backpacks.
“It amazed me how open and warm they were,” she said..
“They had nothing, they lived in very basic wooden huts but they were still so giving.”
In return for the provisions Mrs Claps said one of the children, a 11-year-old called Sarina, presented her with pottery statue.
The wall hanging is an inspiration to Mrs Claps, an IT specialist.
As well as taking her teaching skills to Cambodia she also plans to raise money to take with her to buy much needed teaching resources and food.
“I wanted to hold a fundraising event before I went so that I could buy food for the children and teachers to participate in our workshops, teaching resources and also translator costs to translate our English teaching documents into their Cambodian Khmer language so they can use and keep for future reference and use by others.”
She leaves on June 26.

She is holding a Heart Cambodia Campaign fundraiser at her Glenhaven home on June 19 at 7pm.
Tickets are $20 and can purchased at heartcambodiacampaign.splashthat.com
