Jun 14,2015

PHNOM PENH, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni Sunday bestowed the royal honorary title of "Samdech" on two politicians in the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) for their devotion to the nation and the throne.

According to separate royal decrees, the two are Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng, who was bestowed with the honorary title of "Samdech Krala Horm Sar Kheng," and CPP's Secretary General and Senate President Say Chhum, who was honoured with the title of "Samdech Vibol Sena Pakdei Say Chhum."

Sihamoni said in the royal decrees that the duo "are considered as elite leaders, who have got respect and love from the people, helped lead Cambodia in accordance with the 1993 Constitution, and contributed to constructing legal system."

In addition, they have contributed to building peace, stability, national unification, economy and development in all fields, protecting democracy, and having good international cooperation, he said.

The king added that the two politicians "have maintained national unification and territorial integrity under the wise leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen."

He also stated that the two senior leaders "have loyalty to the throne, protect and worship Buddhism, and defend social justice for the sustainability of the monarchy in the Kingdom of Cambodia. "

Besides royal family members and Buddhist monk leaders, there are a few other political figures who have been awarded the title of "Samdech."

The current holders of "Samdech" include Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife Bun Rany, National Assembly President Heng Samrin, and Deputy Prime Minister and Royal Palace Minister Kong Sam Ol.

Who is next in line for being bestowed the samdech, Mr Sam rainsy? Who knows what games the cpp plays. When it is crunch time they might do it, just to flatter Mr SAm and to take personal as well as political advantages out of him.I hope Mr Sam is not stupid or flattery enough to accept it ,but instead has the courage to refuse to accept it publicly.
