Thai border trade rises 6.9 pct in 2014

BANGKOK (The Nation/ANN) -- The growth momentum of Thailand's border trade continued, with the combined value in 2014 rising by 6.9 per cent.
The Commerce Ministry’s data showed that border trade in 2014 was valued at Bt987.57 billion, an increase by 6.9 per cent from the previous year. 
Trade with neighbouring countries expanded though the country barely registered growth on combined trade. 
Among all neighbouring countries - Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, trade with Malaysia accounted for 51.4 per cent of total. 
In December alone, border trade expanded by 7.2 per cent to Bt87.55 billion.
Border trade accounted for 7.7 per cent of Thailand’s total trade value, which was tuned at US$455.52 billion or approximately Bt14.8 trillion in 2014. 
In the year, while export value dropped 0.41 per cent on year to $227.57 billion, imports also slid by 8.9 per cent on year to $227.95 billion.
