Sa Kaeo registers nearly 3,000 Cambodian workers

Sa Kaeo registers nearly 3,000 Cambodian workersSA KAEO, 6 July 2014 (NNT) – From June 26th to July 3rd, 2014, Sa Kaeo province has processed the documents of 2,958 Cambodian migrant workers. Most of them are going to work for food processing factories and construction groups in Samut Prakarn, Chonburi, Sa Kaeo, and Rayong.

Pitsanuwat Wattanakul, chief of the Sa Kaeo Provincial Worker Coordination Center, said that most of the Cambodian workers who had recently returned to their hometowns were undocumented. So now, when they come back, it takes time to create proper documentation. Furthermore, some of them live in remote areas, so it takes them days to return to Thailand. The workers have come back because they have contacted their employers here, who come to pick them up at the checkpoint.

Separately, Sa Kaeo Provincial Employment Office Director Pongchote Saingam mentioned that the number of Cambodian workers is relatively small because Cambodia’s passport application process is complicated as they have to register with the Ministry of Labor, obtain a passport at the Ministry of the Interior, then lodge a visa application at the Thai Embassy to Cambodia. Eventually they contact the recruitment company before going to Thailand.
