Sihasak Puangketkaew said on Monday that if he were to be transferred to a foreign posting, the most suitable official to replace him as the FM's permanent secretary would be Norachit Sinhaseni, who currently serves as Thailand's ambassador to the UN.

Sihasak told the Thai News Agency that he has served in the post for nearly three years and was about to complete his term, so it would be appropriate for him to be posted overseas.

He was responding to unconfirmed reports that he will become Thai ambassador to Japan. Any transfers will depend on orders from his superiors, added Sihasak, who is currently acting foreign minister, a position he assumed after the military junta seized the power last month.

Some 10 Foreign ministry officials will retire at the end of September, he said, so several reshuffles are necessary. A foreign ministry spokesman said that so far there was no list of officers for transfer in fiscal 2015, which starts October 1, but that consideration was being given to preparing the list.
